The Villa at Fattoria Santo Stefano, a Chianti Region Paradise
This private hilltop villa is at the crossroads of your Tuscany dreams, only twenty-nine miles to San Gimignano, fifteen to Florence and thirty to Siena.
The Villa at Fattoria Santo Stefano near Greve in Chianti is a 7-bedroom, house with a private garden and a picture perfect view of vineyards, olive groves, cypress-lined roads, rolling green hills and of the Apennine Mountains in the west. Imagine the glorious sunsets! It is part of a tiny enclave of 18th to 20th century buildings that include the Bendinelli family homes, six small apartments, outbuildings for the active Chianti winery and olive oil production, together creating the place for an authentic agriotourism holiday. Wine tours are available.
The ground floor of the Villa has a large fully equipped kitchen with a chef’s dream Carrara marble table and modern appliances. It leads to a small dining/reading room and on to a very large comfortably furnished living area with a fireplace, antique piano and 12-seat dining table. Beautiful antique furniture, fine Italian ceramics and tasteful decor are found throughout the home. The ground floor also has two bathrooms, one with a shower and washer and dryer. Alternatively, use the Tuscan sunshine!
From the main floor there is access to the private fenced garden terrace. A vine covered arbor shelters a long table and chairs resembling a set design for an Italian cooking show and expands dining options. A pool (10m x 6m), hot-tub, grill, fire-pit and large yard further enhance the space.
An Italian marble staircase leads up one floor to a large bright central hall lined with seven air-conditioned bedrooms along with two bathrooms, both with showers and one with a bathtub. Three bedrooms rooms have twin beds, the others have queen sized. The bedrooms are large and have plenty of storage and glorious views.
The villa is built in an authentic Italian style. Its thick walls help it remain cool in the summertime and the abundant windows (all screened) provide ample ways to enjoy the seasonal breeze. It is great for family gatherings or four to five couples. Meal preparation is available and Santo Stefano Chianti wine can be purchased.

Our recent stay at the Villa sul Vigneto Santo Stefano was...
“Our recent stay at the Villa Santo Stefano was wonderful! We had a party of 8 for a week and the accommodations were perfect. The photos on VRBO fail to capture the views from the private patio and pool area. The sunsets were phenomenal! The best part of this stay was the delightful host Elena! When we arrived there was a huge bowl of fruit from their garden on the kitchen table and the fridge was stocked with water, several bottles of wine from the vineyard and cheese. Elena gave us a tour of the villa and then we had a tasting of their wines. Breakfast can be booked in advance and is worth the extra cost. It is fantastic with cream, eggs, cheese, juice, croissants, cold cuts, fresh fruit, etc. The croissants are baked fresh every morning and are the best I have ever tasted. Elena was very helpful in recommending and helping us make dinner reservations at local restaurants. They were all fabulous! I also recommend the cooking class with Elena. She is an amazing chef. Our group took the cooking class and it was a wonderful experience, even our 2 children were included in the fun. We prepared tempura zucchini flowers filled with sardines for appetizers, homemade gnocchi with basil and garlic pesto, chicken with delicious tomato sauce and tiramisu for dessert. We ate our delicious meal in the beautiful courtyard watching the sunset and drinking their fabulous wine! Besides the wonderful Elena, the other staff members were delightful! The farm is family run and Elena’s charming niece Irene gave us a tour of the cellars and vineyard. Also, Elena’s cooking and cleaning staff were so lovely. They didn’t speak English and we didn’t speak Italian but somehow we managed to communicate and their warmth was felt! I must also mention the vineyard cats, Billy and Romeo, who kept my granddaughters entertained throughout their stay. My favorite memory of our visit was on our last day as we were carrying our luggage. We heard “goodbye!”. We looked across the street and one of the kitchen staff had opened his second floor window and was greeting us with the sweetest smile! This is a truly magical place that goes the extra mile to make you feel welcome! Well done to Elena and everyone! We will definitely be back!”
